2. CROSS-NETWORK SUCCESS STORY
TIAG and TAGLaw Firms in Brazil Seminar Collaboration
We are delighted to announce that two TIAG member firms Grupo Planus (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil -TIAG) & Anderson Anderson & Brown (AAW) (Scotland - TIAG) and two TAGLaw member firms Xavier Bragança Advogados (XBA) (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil - TAGLaw) & Paull & Williamsons LLP (P&W) (Scotland - TAGLaw) collaborated with each other to deliver a "Doing Business in Brazil" seminar for respective Oil & Gas industry clients and contacts on September 20, 2011 in Aberdeen, Scotland.
Kevin Mann, International Tax Partner at AAB, explained that the idea for the seminar originally arose at the TIAG/TAGLaw conference in Geneva in May this year. "I was actually having an after dinner drink with Felipe Pestana (Grupo Planus) and Marcos Rocha (XBB) when the notion came up of having a joint tax & legal seminar on Brazil, focussed on the Oil & Gas industry, in Aberdeen. We approached Margaret Gibson (P&W) that night and she was equally enthusiastic about all of our firms joining forces to produce the seminar. The seminar itself was a great success, with about 100 people in attendance and feedback received from them indicates that they thought the presentations were first class."
The seminar is a shining example of how TIAG and TAGLaw firms can come together and take advantage of the breadth and depth of knowledge within the networks. We congratulate all four firms for taking this initiative and encourage all of our members to creatively utilize both networks for collaboration and business development efforts.

Internal Controls: Best Practices for Cost-Effective Auditing
Thursday, December 15, 2011
Auditors used to be able to opt out of examining internal controls prior to the issuance of the risk-based standards. Those standards increased the scrutiny of this critical part of the audit process to the point that auditors are beginning to wonder if their efforts are resulting in extra work for little in the way of return. But it doesn't have to be that way. In this two-hour CPE program, experienced auditor and instructor, Alan Anderson, CPA, takes a close look at the questions many auditors are asking and sharpens those questions through a planning process that makes sure internal control work seeks answers in the places most likely to yield them.
In this presentation, Anderson will focus on the practical aspects of planning, documentation and procedures that will help auditors spend their time effectively in consideration of internal controls without spinning their wheels on areas that are of no risk. Key to the discussion will be pre-audit procedures that will allow auditors to do an effective walkthrough process. There will also be time set-aside during the presentation for Anderson to address participant questions sent via e-mail during the program. Don't miss the opportunity to boost the cost-effectiveness of your audits from one of the leading experts in the U.S.! Click here to learn more and register.
